In the recent years, the Vietnamese golf movement has grown powerfully. A number of golf courses were built, followed by the appearance of many amateur tournaments with increasingly attractive prizes which have drawn a great interest from the community of Vietnamese golfers. However, developing professional golf still remains as an impediment for government bodies as well as golf lovers in Vietnam.

According to statistics, within the total population of 90 million Vietnamese people, there is currently less than 0.03% playing golf, the majority of which is amateur. The number of professional golfers reaches only above 100 people. At the moment, Vietnam has only 2 golfers that are qualified for participating in international professional golf competitions.

In explanation to such limited number of professional golfers in Vietnam, General Director of FLC Biscom reckoned that one of the most important reasons lies with the lack of playground for them.

Developing professional golf entailing effort of community

At the beginning, there was only one professional league designated for Non-amateur golfers in the National Amateur Golf Championship organized by Vietnam Golf Association (VGA). Despite the total value of the prizes was just VND 100 million (USD 4,340), the championship was still enthusiastically upheld by the golfers. Since then, with the company of VGA, a number of golf associations in large cities and provinces have started stepping in and diversifying professional golf tournaments. Therein, the most outstanding one remains with VGA following a series of VPG Tour taking place from 2018 across many golf courses all over Vietnam.

Yet, in order to lift the Vietnamese professional golf up to a new level, apart from golf management agencies, we need more and more effort from the community, especially from businesses that function in the field of golf in general and golf courses in particular.

FLC Vietnam Masters 2017 held in September at FLC Samson Golf Links had drawn the great attention from the community of golf lovers in Vietnam. This year, FLC Vietnam Masters 2018 will take place at FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links – a stunning, high-class and technically challenging golf course for professional golfers. The tournament is expected to witness the participation of nearly 80 leading domestic and international professional golfers as well as 20 excellent amateur golfers.
